No agonizing over writing assignments.
That's not me. I love to write. I also love editing, building public awareness of important issues, working with the media and producing large and small publications.
I guess I love it so much because I'm a sixth-generation journalist. I have almost 25 years of communications experience (I started when I was 4, of course) and I have about two decades of association management experience.
SGC Services (What we do.)
A few years ago, I decided to put my energy into Sixth Generation Communications. I specialize in writing and editing, public awareness campaigns, media relations and publication production. With my team of experts, you get more than 40 years of combined experience in the areas of writing, editing, public and media relations and publication production. And, if I do say so myself, we rock!
SGC President Profile (That's me.)
Since 1988, I've held several association management
positions. I started as associate editor at the Florida Funeral Directors (don't laugh, that was a very cool job), and editor of The Florida Police Chief (my minor is in criminal justice). After a seven-month stint at a
full-service graphic design firm, I went to the Florida Dental Association
and held several positions there including communications manager, membership
& marketing manager and director of agency relations and communications. I went back and forth there a couple of times, as well as the Florida Institute of CPAs, where I currently work full-time as its marketing copy manager.
In addition to operating Sixth Generation, I also co-founded Broken Hearts of the Big. It's a non-profit organization to
help families affected by congenital heart defects. I'll tell you more about that later.
I've been a member of the Tallahassee Society of Association Executives since 1989, and I'm serving as its vice presidents. I also volunteer with the Tallahassee chapters of the American Heart Association (one of my favorite organizations in the whole world) and Children’s Miracle Network. CMN is a fundraising branch of Shands Children’s Hospital in Gainesville. That's where my now 5-year-old son underwent open-heart surgery to correct his heart defect (partial anomalous pulmonary venous return) when he was just 2.
I'm a Tallahassee native, which means I've lived here a long time. I've been married to Joaquin since May 1994. William is our younger son and our older son, Martin, is 14.
